That would have required some mechanism to carry info from one mission to another on the map, but it would have been a lot more fun and interesting. Is there any Total Conversion that allows one to play the first two parts with the newest engine? That could have been a lot cooler than having to give you loot on Casing to compensate for the above screwing - instead make Casing have just a minimal normal amount of loot, but have it remember where you stashed gear for use later. Then while Casing, you could be told "anything you leave behind in the mansion will be there for you when you return tomorrow night", and actually leave interesting stashes for yourself to find the next mission. Like if you could place objects into empty chests. What might have made it more interesting, and made "Casing" feel a bit more consequential, would be if the game had a mechanism to "remember" places you stash items.

Then *after* Casing you go on to Masks when you could finally make use of gear, but now you only have what loot you managed to find on Casing. it's a mandatory ghosting mission so what good is all that gear like mines, fire arrows, flash bombs, etc? Once you buy them out of water arrows and moss, there's tons of loot leftover that cannot be converted into anything actually useful - you either buy gear with it that you cannot really use, or don't spend all the loot and thus lose it anyway - either way the placement of Casing where it is in the sequence means you're effectively throwing away 2 levels worth of loot. So you enter into Casing with 2 levels worth of loot and. So between Kidnap and Casing you enter into the shop a rich man, with 2 levels worth of accumulated loot that you finally get to spend on gear, nay not just "get to" but really more like "must", since like all shop screens, loot will disappear into the void if you don't spend it on gear. Between Cargo and Kidnap is one of those spots where you cannot buy at a shop, but get to carry leftover loot to the next level. What I mean with (B) is this: You know how between some levels you get to shop but cannot keep leftover loot, while between other levels its the exact opposite, and you cannot shop but do keep leftover loot? Well, in Casing The joint, the previous level was kindnapping Cavador (the return to the Lost City), and the level before that was Cargo (The pirate base one). I liked the idea in general, but: (A) they shouldn't have been back-to-back because that just makes you feel like "I've seen this all before", and (B) It feels like their place in the plotline was designed to make your looting on previous levels irrelevant, to force you to enter the final level without "credit" for all your hard work.
